TechnoServe is an international non-profit that promotes business solutions to poverty in the developing world by linking people to information, capital and markets. The organisation is primarily involved   in the agricultural industry but also works in the general entrepreneurship space.  TechnoServe’s head office is located in Washington DC and it operates in more than 30 countries.  The South African donors include the South African Government, The Ford Foundation, JP Morgan, Standard Bank, Absa, Massmart, TigerBrands and Anglo American. The Swaziland donors include the European Union and US Aid.Duties performed:•	Oversight of financial accounts and review of balance sheet reconciliations. Annual programmatic spend approximated R35m and R10m for South Africa and Swaziland respectively.•	Management of 7 finance staff, 5 staff members in South Africa and 2 in Swaziland.•	Preparation of budgets for donor programs and monitoring of spend versus budget.•	Preparation of country level  initial and midyear budgets •	Preparation of donor financial reports, often involving multiple currencies.•	Preparation of ad hoc financial analyses as required by Country Directors. •	Financial planning regarding coverage of set overhead costs e.g. salaries, rent etc. •	Involvement in management meetings so as to ascertain the organisation’s pipeline and to   discuss and resolve key financial challenges.•	Set up of a farmer and pack house accounting system for a separate NPC •	Point of contact for US finance and contracts staff.•	Management of the year end audit •	Review of financials and tax submissions as prepared by TechnoServe’s audit firm.•	Cash and payments management

Bidvest Properties (Pty) Ltd, Melrose Arch Johannesburg			Financial Manager Duties performed:•	Responsibility for the financial aspect of the Bidvest Group’s property division. The division has 8 property companies with a total property book cost of over R1.3bn.•	Preparation of monthly management accounts, quarterly financial summaries, yearly budgets, reporting packs and financials.•	Calculation of provisional tax, annual tax estimates and deferred tax.•	Supervision of the financial accountant’s processing and correction of errors identified.•	Preparation of monthly account reconciliations.•	Review of debtors listing and investigation of long overdue balances.•	Compiling construction summary reports comparing actual payments to budget and investigating variations. Construction projects range for R2m to R60m projects.•	Attending the bi-annual Bidvest audit committee meeting and fielding questions on the divisions financial accounts.•	Preparing financial analyses and reports on an ad hoc basis for the divisional Managing Director.•	Management of unresolved council (City of Jhb, Tshwane, etc) issues.

Bidvest is an international services, trading and distribution company, listed on the JSE and operating on four continents.Duties performed:•	Assisting with the group consolidation and preparation of published AFS.  •	Consolidation and preparation of financial statements of Bid Industrial Holdings (Pty) Ltd, a large entity within the group (June 2010 net profit in excess of R1bn).•	Preparation of financials for smaller entities within the group.•	Preparation and submission of tax returns for group companies.•	Identifying problem areas in accounting systems and controls at a subsidiary of the group, MSC Sports (Pty) Ltd. Putting in place new systems to remedy issues identified.•	Preparing reports and analyses for the Managing Director of MSC Sports (Pty) Ltd so as to enable him to have a greater understanding of profitability within the business.•	Managing the financial planning and accounting of the Dinatla Trust (an educational charitable trust).•	Project accounting for the Bidvest Group’s investment in the Mumbai International airport, an investment of approximately R380m involving multiple currencies.
