David Chalenski

David Chalenski is an Asset Optimization Trader at Shell Energy with a strong background in strategies and algorithms for wholesale power markets and trading.

In his role, he specializes in optimizing asset participation across various energy sources, including gas, wind, solar, and utility-scale battery assets, as well as load customers, focusing on ISOs in the CONUS such as ERCOT, PJM, CAISO, and NYISO.

David's expertise extends to supporting investment decisions and term deals by providing valuable market insights and asset participation input in origination, structuring, and fundamentals.

Prior to his current position, David was a Research Scientist at Shell, engaging in New Energies Research and Technology programs focusing on energy systems integration, storage, and renewable asset dispatch and market participation.

He holds a Ph.D. in Plasma Physics with a specialization in Electrical and Computer Engineering, particularly in Inertial Confinement Fusion, from Cornell University.

David has a diverse professional background that includes roles such as Research Geophysicist at Shell Global Solutions, Assistant Research Scientist at the University of Michigan, and Founder/Owner of Dart Engineering.

His experience also spans internships at esteemed institutions like Sandia National Laboratories and RobsonWoese, where he honed his skills in plasma physics and radiological sciences.
