David Bianco

David Bianco is a cybersecurity professional with extensive experience in the field. He is currently a Staff Security Strategist at Splunk, a position he has held since May 2022.1 Prior to this, he worked as a Principal Engineer, Cybersecurity at Target from February 2017 to April 2022.1

Bianco has over 20 years of experience in information security, specializing in incident detection and response, threat hunting, and Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI).4 He is widely recognized for creating two influential frameworks in defensive security:

1. The Pyramid of Pain: A conceptual model illustrating the varying levels of difficulty attackers face when evading detection.23
2. The Threat Hunting Maturity Model.4

Throughout his career, Bianco has held various roles, including:

• Manager of the Hunt Team at Mandiant / FireEye
• Information Security Incident Handler at General Electric
• Security Analyst at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility

Bianco is also a SANS Certified Instructor, teaching network forensics.4 He is known for his commitment to improving security for everyone and has a particular interest in helping people start their cybersecurity careers.4
