Associate Professor and Head of Education (Arts) at Northumbria University
Darryl Humble is an accomplished educator and researcher with extensive experience in teaching, research, and outreach activities in the UK and India.
With a participatory approach, Darryl collaborates with various stakeholders such as local government, civil society, and educational organizations to develop and implement transformative learning and development initiatives.
He offers a diverse range of professional and academic programs, including CPD, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and community learning, specializing in areas such as applied social research methods, ethnography, international development, civil society, and global learning.
As an accredited Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Darryl has contributed to creating educational resources, organizing professional study visits, and co-founding the educational organization Global Community Sports.
His research interests revolve around working with civil society and development actors, exploring organizational development needs, understanding organizational learning and development, and investigating the role of community organizations in providing alternative education.
With a doctoral research focus on development education teacher CPD and organizational change in NGOs, Darryl possesses rich experience in leadership roles related to organizational learning, systems development, and income generation.
Currently serving as a trustee of Good Space, a charity in Newcastle, he aims to foster thriving community hubs and spaces to drive positive social change through collaboration and creativity.
