Daniel Vermeer, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of the Practice at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and the Executive Director of the Center for Energy, Development, and the Global Environment (EDGE). His work focuses on the intersection of business strategy and global environmental challenges, particularly in areas such as climate strategy and ocean innovation. He co-leads the ClimateCAP initiative to integrate climate change into business school curricula and is a co-founder of the Oceans@Duke initiative, which aims to address sustainability challenges in ocean environments.
Before joining academia, Dr. Vermeer worked at The Coca-Cola Company, where he led their Global Water Initiative. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Hope College, a Master’s in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Virginia, and a Ph.D. in Learning Sciences from Northwestern University. His advocacy for sustainable development is reflected in his research, public speaking, and institutional efforts.123
