Daniel J. Chavez is the Executive Director of the Serving Communities Health Information Organization (SCHIO), having taken on this role in March 2022. He is notable for being the first person to hold this position at SCHIO, which is one of the oldest health information exchanges in the United States, serving the Santa Cruz community and surrounding areas.
Professional Background
Chavez has over 35 years of experience in health care information technology (HIT). Before joining SCHIO, he was the founding executive director of San Diego Health Connect, a health information exchange serving San Diego and Imperial Counties. His extensive experience includes leadership roles in startups, business development, and product marketing within the HIT sector.
Chavez has also been involved with several boards, including 211 San Diego, the Community Information Exchange San Diego, and the Strategic HIE Collaborative (SHIEC). He currently serves on the Board of the California Association of HIEs (CAHIE).

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from San Jose State University and an MBA from Stanford University, underscoring his strong academic foundation in both liberal arts and business management.
