    Judicial Law Clerk at the United States District Court for the District of Nevada

    Dane Thorley is an accomplished professional with a diverse academic background and a strong focus on law and political science.

    Currently serving as a Judicial Law Clerk for Judge Andrew Gordon on the Nevada District Court, Dane is set to assume the role of Associate Professor of Law at BYU Law School in Fall 2019.

    With a JD from Yale Law School, a Ph.D. in Political Science and M.A. from Columbia University, and a B.A. in Political Science and Korean from Brigham Young University, Dane brings a wealth of academic expertise to his research.

    His research centers on understanding the impact of legal procedures on the behavior of judicial stakeholders and the effectiveness of these procedures in the U.S. court system, using empirical evaluations and field experiments.

    Dane's research interests encompass court procedure, criminal law, judicial behavior, and the efficacy of legal representation. He is actively involved in projects related to judicial recusal, judicial elections, parole hearings, and various aspects of criminal law.

    Passionate about the role of randomized field experiments (RCTs) in shaping law, procedure, and policy, Dane advocates for their increased integration in legal research and development.

    In addition to his current roles, Dane has held positions at prestigious institutions such as Columbia Law School, Yale Law School, and Brigham Young University, where he has contributed as a Postdoctoral Fellow, Visiting Researcher, and Research Assistant.
