Dana Schaffer
Deputy Director at American Historical Association
Dana Schaffer is the Deputy Director at the American Historical Association (AHA), a position she has held since February 2013. In her role, she oversees various internal operations of the organization, including membership, finance, meetings, development, marketing, and awards.13
Before joining the AHA, Schaffer served as the Assistant Director at the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at Yale University. She has also coordinated educational programs for the Smithsonian Associates and directed an oral history project focused on the 1968 unrest in Washington, DC.14 Additionally, she is actively involved in several historical organizations, serving as chair of the Advisory Committee for National History Day and as treasurer for the National Coalition for History.1
Schaffer holds a Master’s degree from American University.12 Her extensive background in historical education and administration positions her as a significant figure within the AHA and the broader historical community.
