Dan Close holds a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Genome Science & Technology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and graduated Suma Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science - BS in Biology from Saint Louis University.

Professionally, Dan Close serves as the Chief Scientific Officer at 490 BioTech. Previously, he held positions as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, a Research Staff Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
