Travis Brooks
Travis Brooks is an expert in data science and product management with a strong background in physics. He currently leads the Member UI and CS Data Science and Engineering team at Netflix, where he uses data and experimentation to bring joy to millions of members worldwide. Prior to that, he founded and led the data science organization at Yelp, where he satisfied the local information needs of over 100 million demanding users.
Brooks has extensive experience in search retrieval and ranking, review and recommendation systems, search engines, text mining, and product analytics. He learned in theoretical particle physics that intuition must guide investigations, and he applies a data-driven and intuitive approach to his work.
Brooks studied physics at Case Western Reserve University before obtaining his MS in theoretical particle physics from Stanford University. He has held various positions throughout his career, including Director of Data Science, Group Product Manager for Search and Data Science, and SPIRES Database Manager at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory.
In his current role at Netflix, Brooks works to strike a balance between data and intuition to create a joyful member experience. His background combining scientific and business skills makes him unique in the tech industry, and he is an asset to any team.
