Mark Mitsui is an accomplished educator and leader with a wealth of experience in the academic sector. Currently serving as the President of Portland Community College, the largest higher education institution in Oregon, Mitsui oversees a student body of approximately 77,000 credit and non-credit learners each year. With his leadership, Portland Community College has become a national leader in terms of credentials awarded annually and received the USGBC Climate Leadership Award for community colleges in 2017.

Prior to his tenure at Portland Community College, Mitsui served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Community Colleges in the U.S. Department of Education Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education from 2013 to 2016. In this role, he worked to improve communication and enhance connections between the Department of Education and community college institutions. He also served on interagency and White House task forces to further the administration's completion and equity goals.

Mitsui's previous academic roles include serving as the President of North Seattle College, Vice President of Student Services at South Seattle College, Assistant Dean of Student Services at Green River Community College, Director of Student Success and Retention Services at NSCC, and faculty member at Renton Technical College. Over the years, he has received various awards and recognitions for his outstanding contributions to the academic community, including the Rhonda Quash Coates Award for Excellence in Multicultural Student Services and the Doris Ching Award from NASPA.

Mitsui studied Physical Education at Western Washington University and Educational Leadership and Policy Development at the University of Washington. He currently serves on the Second Nature Steering Committee and the Oregon Workforce Investment Board, among other boards and committees.
