Kat Downs Mulder is a seasoned journalist and product strategist with extensive experience in digital news. She is currently the Managing Editor for Digital at The Washington Post, where she oversees various aspects of the company's digital content, including videos, audio, graphics, emerging news products, audience and engagement, the multiplatform desk, photography, design, and newsroom product and operations. Previously, Kat served as the Vice President for Product and Design, where she led product strategy and product design for all of The Post's products across its digital platforms.
Kat Downs Mulder has a strong background in editorial and product leadership. Her expertise includes identifying and evaluating opportunities, obtaining resourcing and creating alignment, developing delivery timelines and launch plans, optimizing group productivity and communication, and executing on aggressive deadlines. She is also passionate about developing talent and building cross-functional teams that can do great journalism.
Kat is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she studied Journalism & Mass Communication, and she also pursued her studies at Lund University and National University of Singapore. She further complemented her academic achievements by studying Management at the Poynter Institute.
