Cody Ray

Cody Ray is a versatile freelance composer, conductor, performer, and educator hailing from Akron, Ohio, with a background that blends bold musical style and a rich history of performances and accolades.

His compositions have been showcased by prestigious ensembles across the United States, including the Grammy Award winning Cleveland Chamber Symphony, Arizona State University Wind Ensemble, and more.

Cody's works have been prominently featured at renowned festivals like the 2020 North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference and events such as the Akron New Music Festival and Cleveland's NEOSONIC fest.

Having received multiple commissions during his academic journey, Cody has garnered recognition through awards like the University of Akron's Composition Competition and being a finalist for the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composers Award.

Currently pursuing a PhD in Music Theory and Composition at Kent State University, Cody holds a Master of Music degree from Western Michigan University and a Bachelor of Music degree from The University of Akron.

His educational path has been enriched by studying under esteemed composers such as Richard Adams, Lisa Coons, and participating in enlightening masterclasses with renowned experts in the field.

Apart from his musical pursuits, Cody has diverse experiences ranging from being a Graduate Assistant at Kent State University to roles like Lead Representative at Stryker and Onboarding Specialist at Mercury - Banking for Startups.

His past engagements include teaching positions as a Trumpet Instructor at high schools, serving as a Barback at The Lockview, and contributing as a Crowd Management personnel at Live Nation, showcasing his multifaceted skill set and adaptability.
