Clare Newman is a highly accomplished and experienced urban planning professional based in New York City. She holds a Master of Science in Urban Planning from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy from Williams College. With an illustrious career spanning across various renowned organizations, she has garnered immense expertise and skills in the field of economic development, government innovation and project management.
Currently serving as the President and CEO of Trust for Governors Island, Newman is responsible for overseeing the development and management of one of New York City's largest open spaces. Prior to her current role, she served as the Chief of Staff and EVP at Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, where she helped spearhead strategies for commercial and industrial growth in the city.
At Bloomberg Philanthropies, Newman served as the Government Innovation Lead, driving the deployment of innovation efforts and technology to improve the quality of life for New Yorkers. She also served as the Vice President at New York City Economic Development Corporation, where she worked to support businesses in various neighborhoods across the city.
Newman’s professional experience includes a stint at Bennett Midland, where she worked as a Manager, and as a Project Manager at James Wagman, Architects, where she supported the design and construction of various development projects. She also served as a Teacher at Teach for America, where she taught middle school students.
