    Cigdem Sengul

    Cigdem Sengul is a computer networks researcher, educator, tinkerer, and STEMinist with a strong background in network protocols, wireless and mesh networks, energy efficiency, and interference in wireless mobile networks.

    Having worked and led projects in R&D environments in the USA and Europe since 2002, Cigdem has an extensive publication record with more than 50 journal and conference publications and demonstrations. Her current focus includes network privacy, security, identity, and authorization.

    Cigdem is actively involved in the ACE working group in IETF and has co-authored drafts related to MQTT-TLS Profile of ACE and Pub-Sub profile of ACE. She has also designed and delivered courses on web applications, Blockchain, wireless networks, radio communications, and advanced mobile networks at various universities.

    Her educational background includes a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Science (MS) in Computer Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, as well as a BS in Control and Computer Engineering from Istanbul Technical University. She also holds a post-graduate certificate in Teaching in Higher Education from Oxford Brookes University.

    Passionate about diversity in computing, Cigdem takes on leadership roles in various organizations including being the Athena SWAN lead and Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion college champion at Brunel, and Communications co-chair of ACM-W.
