Strategist / Educator / Drummer
Christopher Owens is a strategist, educator, drummer, and mixed-media storyteller with a diverse background in advertising and brand strategy. Originally from the Midwest near Columbus, Ohio, he pursued his passions for music and creativity, earning a B.F.A. in Language and Communications from the University of North Texas. He embarked on a successful music career as a drummer in the award-winning ska band The Grown-Ups before transitioning to the world of advertising.
With a keen interest in strategic planning, Christopher honed his skills at Gleason/Calise and furthered his education at the prestigious Miami Ad School, graduating as a top student from their Account Planning Boot Camp. Joining The Richards Group in 2000, he provided strategic guidance to a variety of renowned brands, earning accolades such as Effie awards for his impactful work.
Christopher's expertise extends to international collaborations, having overseen strategic initiatives in Tokyo and trained strategists in brand development. His commitment to education led him to lecture at esteemed institutions like SMU, VCU Brand Center, and Miami Ad School, where he also taught after graduating from their Boot Camp program. His teaching experience spans over 14 years, shaping the minds of future creatives around the globe.
In 2020, Christopher embraced a new challenge in agency leadership, contributing to the transformation of The Richards Group into a nonprofit-owned creativity collective. Alongside his professional endeavors, he continues to pursue his passion for music, performing with fellow musicians in the indie/kraut/dub rock project, The Sudden Walk. A proud father of two daughters, he balances his career with family life, embodying a well-rounded approach to creativity and personal fulfillment.
