During my brief internship I maintained and optimized a continuos purification system, led experiments to regenerate catalysts and discover new purification methods to reduce company expenses, and gave weekly progress presentations to maintain communication with upper management.

Research and Engineering Intern

I am automating both protein expression and harvest as well as characterizing the recovered proteins and the hydrogel scaffold that the Mai lab is developing.  The goal is to make muscle-mimetic proteins that can be placed into viable hydrogels to help patients recover from volumetric muscle loss.  One potential use would be muscle recovery therapies for veterans who suffered severe injuries to limbs during combat.

Undergraduate Researcher

I worked in the materials group of the Appel Lab.  I modified polymers involved in supramolecular hydrogels and record the rheological properties of the bulk materials.  The goal is to develop a theoretical framework on how hydrophobicty of pendant groups affects the rheological properties of the bulk hydrogel.
