Christopher Carpenter is a Chickasaw citizen who grew up in Ada, Oklahoma, surrounded by tribal activities.1 He graduated from Ada High School in 2002 and went on to earn a degree in electrical engineering from Tulsa University in 2006.1 After graduation, he worked for PSO – Public Service Company of Oklahoma – as a product design engineer while simultaneously pursuing his graduate degree.1
During his time as a graduate student in 2008, Carpenter was part of a team that created a specialized wheelchair for a young quadriplegic girl, which allowed her to be more independent and communicate more effectively with her family and friends.1 He credits the Chickasaw Nation's support for enabling him to obtain the highly specialized engineering knowledge and training that contributed to his success in such endeavors.1
Carpenter was inspired by his grandfather, who received his pilot's license at just 16 years old.1 This inspiration, along with his grandfather's can-do attitude and characteristic Chickasaw willpower, led Carpenter to eventually work at CymSTAR, LLC, a flight simulation company, utilizing his electrical engineering degree.1
