Christine Farren
Executive Director at Foodwise
Christine Farren is the Executive Director of Foodwise, an organization formerly known as CUESA (Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture). She has been with the organization since 2003 and has served as Executive Director since 2020.12
In her role as Executive Director, Christine is responsible for:
- Managing Foodwise's overall operations and financials
- Implementing policies and deliverables set by the Board of Directors
- Leading Foodwise to achieve annual goals and objectives1
Christine's background and experience include:
- Holding a BA in American Studies from the University of California at Santa Cruz
- Working in various roles at Foodwise since 2003, including administrative, marketing, and fundraising positions
- Serving as the primary fundraiser for about nine years before becoming Executive Director2
Christine is passionate about farmers markets and sustainable agriculture. She believes that shopping at a farmers market is one of the most life-affirming and community-building activities possible.1 She enjoys interacting with members of the food community in San Francisco and finds joy in seeing children engage with cooking classes and create vegetable-centric dishes.2
As a leader, Christine is committed to addressing racial and economic equality in farming and food access. She acknowledges the need for the good food movement to focus more on social justice aspects and is working to actively promote change in both internal and external policies at Foodwise.2
Outside of work, Christine enjoys summer fruits, particularly apricots, and advocates for proper food storage to reduce waste and make meal preparation easier.2
