Chris Zijdeveld, born in 1944, is a sustainability pioneer and a prominent figure in the field of sustainable living, physical planning, traffic, and building. He graduated from Delft University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and later studied law at Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Chris's career took off in 1974 when he was elected as a City Council and Board Member in Schiedam, Netherlands, leading groundbreaking initiatives in sustainable city planning, renewable energy use, and energy-efficient building techniques. During his time in Schiedam, he oversaw the construction of over 6000 low-energy houses and apartments, along with the retrofitting of existing buildings to reduce energy consumption.
