Xirrus is a manufacturer of 802.11 Wi-Fi arrays that provide wireless connectivity for a range of environments from a few users in a coffee shop hotspot to the crowds in large public venues such as the Ryder Cup and the football stadium at the University of Mississippi.  I developed new features for the Linux-based Array Operating System (AOS) used in all Xirrus Wi-Fi array platforms and resolution of AOS-related field issues.  I worked in the areas of Wi-Fi client connectivity, authentication and management, as well as fixing a wide variety of user space and kernel issues discovered in the field and in QA.Projects:● Implemented DHCP Option 82 support for SSID-based connection security● Implemented support for RADIUS Multi-Session-Id used by vendors for auditing client activity● Ported Squid HTTP Proxy open source to AOS for use in proxy forwarding applications● Added support for server-based 802.11i EAPOL PSK authentication of client-array connections● Developed Perl-based process and interface to cloud-hosted XMS-C using STOMP/WebSockets● Developed HTTP-redirect functionality for cloud-based Wi-Fi Guest Access Portal authentication● Implemented support for Ekahau Wi-Fi tag-based location services ● Implemented CLI, system and SNMP Agent support for numerous other features related to the management, configuration and reporting of hardware sub-systems and software modules

MRV Communications is manufacturer of optical transport systems, carrier ethernet and optical/copper conversion equipment for the telecommunications carrier market.  I developed management support for the FiberDriver family of line cards, which perform fiber-copper conversion, fiber distance extension, or some other protocol switching or conversion function.  Management support included CLI commands for configuration and status reporting, and additions to the SNMP MIB and Agent for NMS control.  Configuration often required direct control of line card components for features such as VLANs and SFP optical diagnostics. Zuma developed a gigabit switch/router.  I developed configuration, control and reporting software on a Linux-based mgmt blade for managing FPGA-based blades in a gigabit switch/router.Projects:● Management module for an MPLS switch blade● Patched Linux server with MPLS support for testing with MPLS switch blade● Integrated IP-based protocols for security (RADIUS) and time synchronization (SNTP)● Management module for switch blade that performed 802.1p traffic classification● CLI and SNMP Agent support for configuration and status/statistics collection and reporting of Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet switch blades

ACT Networks manufactured packet-based (Frame Relay) voice/data multiplexers.  Voice/fax from analog or T1/E1/J1 channels and data were multiplexed over a Frame Relay network link.  I managed the development of the base multiplexer platform and the methods of transmitting the voice/fax management signaling over the packet network.Other management functions:● Defined and established an Engineering test team for development support● Coordinated software design/development/integration with OEMs, including Cisco, Lucent, NTT● Managed major software releases, coordinating Engineering, QA, Customer Service and Product Mgmt

When initially hired, I was responsible for all software development of the base multiplexer platform.  This included the interface to the voice/fax modules, as well as the initial proprietary TDM network interface.  This interface was eventually replaced with a more standards-based Frame Relay network interface.Projects:● Voice-over-ATM module and integrated with base multiplexer platform● Device driver development - SCC, flash memory, LCD display● System software including frame relay interface, sync/async data channels, SCC and Flash drivers, LCD display, file transfer, SNMP agent and CLI●  Congestion detection and bandwidth allocation mechanisms for packetized voice channels●  Configurable dialing plans and PBX-type features (call forwarding, callback)●  Ported Harris & Jeffries frame relay protocol stack into proprietary operating system

Harris-Dracon makes telephony test equipment used by field service technicians and central office support personnel.  The ubiquitous orange handset dangling from the phone company repair person's belt is the iconic product.  I worked on various next-gen test devices such as a hand-held touchscreen computer that would connect with the central office and exchange trouble ticket information.
