Chris Freund

Chris Freund is the Founder, Chairman, and Managing Partner of Mekong Capital, a prominent private equity firm based in Vietnam. Established in 2001, Mekong Capital is recognized as the first private equity firm to focus exclusively on Vietnam, specializing in investments in consumer-driven businesses. The firm employs a unique investment strategy known as Vision Driven Investing, which emphasizes the importance of aligning company operations with their long-term vision and fostering a strong corporate culture.13

Freund's professional journey began with his education at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he studied psychology and religious experience. His interest in Vietnam was sparked during a backpacking trip in 1992, leading him to return to the country after completing his studies. Before founding Mekong Capital, he worked at Templeton Asset Management, where he was involved in emerging markets investment, particularly in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.146

In addition to his role at Mekong Capital, Freund was a co-founder of Navigos Group, which operates VietnamWorks.com, the leading job recruitment website in Vietnam. He has also served as the non-executive chairman of Pasteur Street Brewing Company, a successful craft brewery in Vietnam.1234
