Chris Davalle is a seasoned professional with over four decades of experience in the journalism and editorial industry.
Starting at the Surrey Comet newspaper in Kingston upon Thames in 1976, Chris began his career as a reporter covering areas like Epson, Ewell, and Chessington, eventually transitioning to sub-editing and rising to the position of chief sub-editor.
In 1985, Chris made a significant move to The Times where he held various roles ranging from subbing, writing, production, designing, to systems development.
Over the years, Chris worked on different desks within The Times, such as features production, news, and foreign desks. He played a pivotal role in the transition from traditional to digital page layout systems like Atex/ENL and Hermes.
Chris's expertise extended to design elements as well, with notable contributions to the creation and launch of new sections like Times2, The Knowledge, Body & Soul, Weekend, Bricks & Mortar, and The Game, among others.
He was instrumental in the redesign of The Times from broadsheet to compact format, and under Neville Brody's leadership, he played a major role in overhauling the paper's design.
Chris is renowned for his ability to blend journalistic, design, and production skills, evident in his involvement with the Newsroom 360 team as a Subject Matter Expert to help shape the Methode multi-platform production system at The Times.
Currently serving as a Senior Projects Manager at The Times, Chris is dedicated to updating and refining the Methode editorial system, addressing day-to-day challenges and ensuring smooth operations.
After 32 years at The Times, Chris is on the brink of embarking on a new chapter, eagerly anticipating fresh opportunities outside the publication.
