Charlotte Bishop

Charlotte Bishop is a Senior Project Manager at Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT), where she plays a pivotal role in the NICFI Satellite Data Program. This program, initiated by Norway's International Climate and Forest Initiative, aims to provide free access to high-resolution satellite imagery for monitoring tropical forests, thereby supporting efforts to combat deforestation and promote sustainable development. Under her leadership, the program has garnered over 25,000 registered users across nearly 160 countries, highlighting its global impact and significance in environmental conservation efforts.13

Bishop has over 15 years of experience in Earth Observation, having worked with various organizations in both the UK and Norway. Her expertise includes delivering satellite data products and services tailored to diverse user needs, ranging from governmental bodies to non-profit organizations.23 She emphasizes the importance of transparency and accessibility in environmental monitoring, stating that making satellite data available for free allows for better documentation and awareness of deforestation activities, which is crucial for effective policy-making.13

In her role at KSAT, Bishop coordinates the delivery of satellite data that covers approximately 45 million square kilometers of tropical forests across 97 countries. The data is designed to be user-friendly and is utilized by various stakeholders, including indigenous communities, NGOs, and researchers, to monitor forest health and illegal logging activities.14
