Charlin Lu is the Senior Director of Intellectual Property & Product Legal at Rubrik.1 She leads the IP and Product Legal teams at Rubrik and spearheads the company's efforts to mitigate risks around AI while enabling innovation.1
Prior to joining Rubrik, Charlin held the position of Director of IP Legal at Salesforce, where she advised the AI research team on various issues including patents, data collection, and research collaboration.1
Charlin's background in AI stems from her computer science studies at Yale University. After graduating from Stanford Law School, she began her legal career as a law clerk for Judge Ronald M. Whyte in the Northern District of California, which sparked her interest in patent law.1 She further solidified her interest in IP during a second clerkship with Chief Judge Randall R. Rader at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.1
Following her clerkships, Charlin joined Covington & Burling, where she litigated complex, high-stakes IP cases for several years before transitioning to an in-house role.1 Her experience and expertise in IP law, particularly in relation to AI and technology, make her well-suited for her current role at Rubrik, where she balances risk mitigation with innovation in the rapidly evolving field of AI.
