Charles Davis
Professor - Racial Equity Researcher - Organizational Strategist - Photographer and Filmmaker
Dr. Charles H.F. Davis III, a third-generation educator, is an assistant professor at the University of Michigan's Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education.
He has been recognized as a 2020 Emerging Scholar and a 2021 NAEd/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellow for his focus on race, racism, and resistance in education and society.
Dr. Davis is a prolific author with over three dozen publications, including research articles, books, and scholarly essays, along with short and feature-length films exploring Black culture and social issues.
His work has been featured in prestigious publications like the Los Angeles Times and cited in legal briefs to the Supreme Court of the United States.
Apart from academia, he has worked as an organizational strategist at several universities and is a prominent racial equity educator having trained thousands of individuals worldwide.
Dr. Davis is a sought-after speaker who has delivered lectures at esteemed institutions like Brown University, Stanford University, and the Sorbonne University.
He holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education from the University of Arizona, with additional master's degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Florida State University.
As an organizer, he founded the Scholars for Black Lives collective, advocating for the empowerment and enhancement of everyday Black people.
Currently residing in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Dr. Davis aligns his activism with Black Lives Matter Los Angeles and Dream Defenders, fostering change and equality.
