I provide team leadership, project and product management, and business advice to help clients achieve more and delight their users/customers. Recent engagements include:• Software integration, launch leadership, and investor briefing for a leading vertically-integrated cannabis company. This client needed to quickly offer delivery services in new territories as they acquired cannabis retailers and delivery permits. I acted as a combination of outsourced CTO, project manager, technical architect, and engineering manager as we identified and implemented a stack of commercial off the shelf software packages to power their own-branded delivery operations.  • Product, project, launch management, and training for the largest school accreditation non-profit in the Western US. A team of Salesforce software engineers had been building a highly-customized accreditation management platform for nearly a year when they lost their project lead, just prior to launch. I stepped in and led our team through finalizing the software, training the client, launching to the client’s staff, and then to their pilot user group. • Data science project leadership and geospatial software development management for a leading public utility. A diverse group of data science experts needed a project lead to drive this high-importance toward rapid and successful delivery. Our team has been modeling utility-caused wildfire risk, so our client can make more targeted safety improvements to their electrical distribution network. My responsibilities have included interfacing with large numbers of stakeholders, working through thick layers of bureaucracy and IT friction, keeping our loosely-affiliated team heading in a consistent direction, testing and documenting a wide variety of data sources, and product managing a custom geospatial machine learning software stack built on AWS SageMaker and Jupyter notebooks with custom Python libraries.

- Set goals and strategy for Kong’s new open integration platform (Kong Hub), achieved leadership consensus on difficult topics like “how should we curate our marketplace?”. Designed interactions, workflows, and data model, wrote documentation and marketing content. Lead a cross-functional team to design and code Kong Hub, reviewed pull requests, and maintained the code repository. Launched on-schedule and exceeded the key success metric for third-party listings at launch and again 3 months hence. Kong Hub was the only product announced at Kong’s inaugural user summit to become Generally Available (GA) on the day it was announced.• Managed Kong’s partnerships and integrations with all leading cloud infrastructure vendors including AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google, Red Hat, IBM, Docker, Heroku/Salesforce, and more. Launched new easy-deployment options including Google Cloud Platform’s Kubernetes Marketplace and Red Hat’s Container Marketplace.   • Developed and presented many external webinars and community calls, and internal learning sessions, including beginner and advanced product demos, thought leadership like “How Kubernetes is Changing Microservice Architectures”, and new tech orientations like “Service Mesh for Non-Engineers - Why It Matters”.• Prepared, presented, and published high-level and technical content explaining new Service Mesh features. Became broadly knowledgeable of service mesh technology from various vendors and open source projects, and can speak and teach on the topic of service mesh to any level audience. • Assumed leadership of Kong’s documentation website and internal processes. Kong’s open source docs site receives more traffic than the marketing website. Made many fixes and improvements, and educated colleagues on new site features to streamline their contributions. Delivered a very successful month of Hacktoberfest, collaborated with many open source community members (see blog post for more details).

- Introduced Agile and Scrum practice, coached five engineering teams with regular Scrum ceremonies, simplified tooling and artifacts. Acted as Product Owner for all teams. Results included dramatic improvements in engineer happiness and in shipping velocity.• Rationalized product/feature portfolio to focus our efforts on our most valuable offerings. Made the tough call to deprecate and end-of-life two legacy products. Conducted customer and internal communications. Results include high customer retention and accelerated progress on our core features. • Introduced "spike" projects that have allowed us to rapidly produce valuable prototypes, and to deeply explore tricky technical challenges, in much shorter time periods. • Proposed, iterated, and implemented wholistic naming/ontology for products, features, subscriptions, etc. Coached Engineering, Marketing, and Sales colleagues towards consistent usage, resulting in increased clarity and simplicity regarding our offerings. • Led the implementation and roll-out of Kong Enterprise Edition licensing across Engineering, Sales, Sales Engineering, and Customer Success. Later led the design and implementation of a self-service free trials program, which involved nearly every department at Kong Inc.• Created a monthly webinar program, co-presented every webinar, guided improvements in topic selection, marketing, and presentations, resulting in exceptionally high registration and webinar engagement metrics.• Expanded product telemetry collection, to better understand users, configurations, and performance. Integrated analysis into office dashboards and Salesforce for improved visibility and action-ability of product usage metrics. • Established consistent infrastructure and process for offering public downloads of Kong Community Edition and private downloads of Kong Enterprise Edition. Designed and led the implementation of analytics for understanding download trends.

- Responsible for many aspects of New Relic's platform including strategy, API capabilities, and integration developer experience- Launched major improvements to New Relic’s interactive API documentation, high-privilege API keys and simplified API key management, collection of all of New Relic’s APIs into a single landing page, and more- Launched New Relic product usage tracking UI and API - Authored blog posts, led webinars, presented at New Relic and AWS events- Assisted with high-value sales and partner engagements as the subject matter expert on New Relic’s platform and APIs• Guided an engineering team in Portland, Oregon building New Relic’s demo environment- Worked closely with Sales to ensure the demo environment reliably supported the highest-value demo scenarios across multiple New Relic products and features• Guided an engineering team in Barcelona, Spain building integrations for New Relic’s newest product, New Relic Infrastructure• Invited by New Relic's Product Org leadership (which consists of Engineering, Design, and Product Management) to be the primary liaison to a team from the world's largest pricing consulting firm in a 5-month, mid-six-figure engagement to help New Relic determine the new pricing and packaging for the flagship APM product- Subsequently guided an engineering team in Guadalajara, Mexico in building the data pipeline, storage, and reporting UI and API necessary for the new pricing model- Worked closely with Architecture, Design, other Engineering teams, Finance, the Pricing Program Office, and others to ensure the new pricing was brought to market successfully• Invited by the SVP of Product to be the Product Management representative in Project Upscale, a 6-month project to reinvent how New Relic staffs teams, prioritizes projects, and builds software
