Daniele Spaccini

Daniele Spaccini is a distinguished Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Senior R&D Engineer with a wealth of experience in underwater communication, networking, and wireless sensor networks. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the prestigious University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 2015, where he researched underwater vehicles and localization. During his doctoral studies, he published over two dozen papers and contributed to several demonstrations, two of which received the Best Demo Awards. In addition, he is the main designer, developer, and maintainer of the SUNSET framework.

Currently, Daniele is coordinating the Underwater Group at Wsense s.r.l. where he is responsible for increasing the hardware and software functionalities of underwater wireless sensor networks. He is in charge of designing innovative communication solutions between different underwater assets and integrating environmental probes, acoustic/optical modems, gateway buoys, and underwater autonomous vehicles.

Daniele has also participated in several EU-funded projects such as FP7 STREP CLAM Project, FP7 SUNRISE Project, and H2020 EASME ArcheoSub. In SUNRISE, he oversaw underwater experimental activities, while in ArcheoSub, he supervised the design and development of the software used in all the in-field experiments.

Over the years, Daniele Spaccini has participated in more than twenty sea trials where he extensively tested innovative underwater systems. During these campaigns, he collaborated with research and defence centers such as CMRE (Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation) and SPAWAR (Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command). He is also the author of two filed patents on adaptive underwater communications.
