As a Software Developer, he worked on high-performance computing at Dalhousie University and Pythian, while at Defence Research and Development Canada, he was tasked with software development. Additionally, Doherty has held several roles in water safety, including Waterfront Director at CNIB Lake Joseph, Head Lifeguard at Dartmouth Sportsplex, and Aquatics Director at Centennial Pool.

Currently, Mike Doherty is part of the Frameworks Platform team at Google, where he helps create a standardized production platform. He is responsible for making clients believe that microservices are easy and that computers work.
