Rana el Kaliouby is an AI thought leader, entrepreneur, scientist, and author on a mission to humanize technology. She is the deputy CEO of Smart Eye, leading the company towards becoming a global AI powerhouse with a focus on ethics, diversity, equity, and inclusion. She is also the co-founder and former CEO of Affectiva, an MIT Media Lab spinoff credited with creating the category of artificial emotional intelligence or Emotion AI. Rana has raised $50M+ in capital from top-tier investors and non-dilutive funding to bring Affectiva's Emotion AI to 90+ countries and several industries, including automotive and media analytics.

Rana is an advocate for the ethical development and deployment of AI and is part of industry organizations like the Partnership on AI and the World Economic Forum's Council of Young Global Leaders. She is also passionate about diversity and inclusion in tech and leadership and is a member of the Boston Steering Committee for All Raise and a Venture Partner of the MIT Media Lab E14 Fund.

Rana holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge and has studied executive education in global leadership and public policy for the 21st century at Harvard Kennedy School. She is also a Board of Trustees member at the American University in Cairo, a leading liberal arts university in the Middle East.
