Product Development Engineer

As Sr. Sustaining Engineering Manager, my team of engineers and scientists are responsible for the ongoing design improvement, support and maintenance of Cytiva Nanomedicine's' lineup of microfluidic instruments and reagent kits.  We ensure the continued performance, reliability, and functionality of Cytiva's products by identifying potential design improvements, improving product quality, and providing technical support to our clients.

Key activities include reliability and failure analysis, product enhancement and improvements, documentation and technical support, as well as obsolescence and configuration management.

- Designed, developed and launched the Bloom Pour Over Coffee Brewer and Kit, a product awarded 11 design and 2 utility patents and projected to generate a combined $430k of revenue in 2021
- Managed international suppliers and vendors and worked with a cross-functional team comprising Sales, Marketing, Logistics and Supply Chain professionals to develop and launch new products.
- As part of a team, helped execute  a successful Kickstarter campaign raising over $75k USD.

ESPRO Inc.

MotBot Innovative Software developed class-leading enterprise software that helped its clients gain unique insights into their data to improve product quality, and get their products out to the market faster than their competitors.   MotBot also provided enterprise, optimization and consultation services to clients for all their test data management needs.

- Focused on Business Development by engaging with various clients in N.America, Europe and Asia to develop functional requirements, and provide customized training .  
- Worked with remote development teams in the design and deployment of custom database applications with client specific user interfaces.
- Completed the Venture Accelerator Program at Wavefront, a Canada-wide startup incubator program based in Vancouver.  Worked with entrepreneurs-in-residence to recognize market opportunities and accelerate our product roadmap.

MotBot

Co-founder and CEO

Lead a team of web developers, programmers and engineers to create and implement a global online database used to execute, classify, track and analyze the data from environmental, mechanical and reliability testing performed on dozens of handset product programs in Nokia.

Specialist, Test Data Management

-  Led a team of reliability, failure analysis engineers and technicians to plan and execute all Mechanical, Environmental and Reliability testing for the flagship Nokia N96 handset, working closely with Design, Operations and Logistics to reduce field failures and improve product quality.  This required extensive team and project management skills, as well as contributions to global Nokia R&D activities including test specification creation and test lab audits.

HW Validation Team Lead

Collaborated with a team to complete all HW Validation testing on the award-winning Nokia N91 and N91 8GB.   This required expert knowledge of specialized equipment including vibration shaker tables, tensile testers, environmental chambers and various machine shop equipment and analytical Instruments.

Creo, now part of Eastman Kodak, designed and created imaging and software technology for computer to plate and digital printing.

    - Responsible for the conceptual design and assembly of a low particulate enclosure for a VLF (Very Large Format) LCD printer.

Mechanical Design Engineer

General Hydrogen develops and installs hydrogen-based energy delivery systems,  including fuel cell Hydricity packs and distributed power generation solutions for back-up power and UPS, scalable to demand.

    - Investigated Hydrogen Recirculation Pump technologies for use in General Hydrogen’s Hydricity fuel cell packs.  This work involved prototype pump research, selection and testing.

Systems Engineer

QuestAir Technologies develops gas separation and purification products for use in mobile and stationary PEM fuel cells, landfill gas recovery, and industrial hydrogen markets.

   - Collaborated with a team to develop two generations of the H-6100, a hydrogen purifier, as well as four generations of the OxyBooster oxygen purifier, resulting in increased performance and reduced cost of Ballard Power Systems’ mobile PEM fuel cells.
Each prototype required the completion of conceptual designs on Pro/ENGINEER with detailed geometrical tolerances as well as design analysis, including stress calculations, failure modes, and DFA.  
Supervised component fabrication at the vendor, and the assembly, commissioning and testing of the completed prototype.

   - Delivered two internal test rigs used to verify the performance of various OxyBooster prototypes.  This required working well within a cross-functional team of Design, Manufacturing and Test Engineers.

QuestAir Technologies

Arterial Vascular Engineering, now part of Medtronic, designed and manufactured specialized stent systems and angioplasty balloon catheters used for arterial support in balloon angioplasty.

   - Identified and eliminated dangerous contamination on angioplasty stents by planning and executing a detailed test protocol that tracked product temperatures during various sterilization procedures.  This resulted in reduced scrap rates and improved patient safety.
   - Designed, assembled and commissioned an In-House Passivation Prototype, a high-value machine that eliminated corrosion residue detected on catheter microtubes.
