Carroll Muffett is the President and CEO of the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), a nonprofit organization dedicated to using legal frameworks to protect the environment and promote human rights. Muffett is recognized as an expert in international environmental law and has a background that includes serving as the deputy campaigns director at Greenpeace USA. As of June 2024, Muffett announced that he would be stepping down from his position at CIEL to become the Executive Director of the Foundation for International Law for the Environment (FILE), marking a new chapter in his career while leaving CIEL in a strong position for future endeavors.1
