Roberto Echandi is an accomplished Trade and Investment Specialist with a rich background in both domestic and international policy-making and academia. Holding specialized studies on international trade and investment law and policy from the University of Michigan, the University of Oxford, and the University of Bern, his skillset includes negotiation, government, international trade, foreign direct investment, international relations, and Spanish.

As Lead Trade Specialist at the World Bank Group, Roberto's experience underscores his ability to drive the development of trade policies and investments across the globe. Prior to this, he held several positions of importance in different organizations. He served as the Global Lead Investment Policy and Promotion at the World Bank Group, Director Program on International Investment at the University of Bern's World Trade Institute, Ambassador of Costa Rica at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Chief Negotiator for the Association Agreement between Central America and the European Union at the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Costa Rica.

Roberto is a highly-regarded and experienced professional, with multiple accolades under his belt. He studied Adjunct Professor of Law and Visiting Fellow IIEL, International Trade and Investment Law at Georgetown University Law Center, completed his Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Latin American Studies at the University of Oxford, and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Ph.D. in International Law from the University of Bern, Switzerland, among others.
