BT Slingsby
Founder and Managing Partner at Catalys Pacific
BT Slingsby is a prominent physician-scientist, biotechnology entrepreneur, and global health expert. He currently serves as a Special Appointed Professor at Kyoto University and is the Founder and Managing Director of Catalys Pacific, an organization aimed at transforming life sciences innovation through transpacific partnerships.
Education and Career
Dr. Slingsby graduated with honors from Brown University and earned his MD from The George Washington University. He further pursued his education in Japan, obtaining both his MPH and PhD from Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo. His academic contributions include over 50 peer-reviewed articles in medicine and public health, and he has co-authored significant works in bioethics.13
Before his current roles, Dr. Slingsby was the founding CEO of the Global Health Innovative Technology (GHIT) Fund, the first public-private fund in Japan focused on developing new medicines for low- and middle-income countries. Under his leadership, the fund grew to $350 million, making over 100 investments in health innovations.12
Contributions to Global Health
Dr. Slingsby has been recognized for his contributions to global health, receiving a Foreign Ministry Commendation from the Government of Japan. His work has been featured in major publications such as The Economist, Financial Times, and The New York Times.1
In addition to his role at Catalys Pacific, he lectures at both Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo, where he continues to influence the next generation of health professionals and researchers.23
