Modern Life

Software Engineer

Supported and extended internal tooling to populate a Redshift data warehouse. Stack included Python 3, Scala, SQL, AWS Lambda, and AWS Data Pipeline. Tooling was used by data engineers, analytics engineers, and data analysts to model and present data to the entire enterprise. 

Tech lead for 2-person team that operated an internal service for dispatching transactional emails from our e-commerce system to our email service provider. Managed sprints, backlog, roadmaps, worked with stakeholders on features, and implemented them. Stack was Scala, Docker, ECS and CloudFormation.

Tech lead on internal front end web application written in TypeScript and React with JSX, Redux, and Gatsby. GraphQL service written in TypeScript with Apollo on Node, deployed to the same Kubernetes cluster that runs our core services. Learned front end toolchain, then provided technical leadership to other team members and served as primary point of contact for product owners.

Evangelized AWS best practices, provided guidance on software design and system architecture, and pushed for high standards in code reviews.

Harry's, Inc.

Senior Staff Engineer

Part of the Data and Analytics team, built a reliable and scalable data pipeline to populate a data warehouse from a variety of source systems. Data was pulled from MySQL, MongoDB, and several third party SaaS solutions via their REST APIs, and stored in AWS Redshift. The pipeline was built in Python 3 as distributed tasks using Celery and ran entirely in Docker containers.

LearnVest

Data Engineer

Member of a small team that built analytic applications supporting the data science team and our analytical consultants. Responsible for ingesting data from a variety of sources into Hadoop, built data processing applications, and implemented statistical/machine learning models. Used a variety of tools including Hive, Cascading, Scalding, Mahout, Sqoop, Python and Bash.

Inmar

Senior-level developer responsible for RESTful web service/API design and development for Inmar's Digital Promotions Network. Helped set development practices, design APIs, and perform full-stack development in Python with Django on MySQL. System was built on AWS to maximize availability and scalability. Served as tech lead for a team of six developers.

Web Services Lead

Served remotely in a staff augmentation capacity as a lead developer. Added significant new features and resolved several complex outstanding issues with LPS's e-commerce system. The e-commerce system powered both JCPenny's and Target's national, user-facing e-commerce sites for portrait studios. Work spanned the full range of web development from advanced front-end HTML/CSS/JS to Zend Framework-based middle tier, to maintenance and debugging of Oracle stored procedures that were thousands of lines long.

Technology stack consisted of Solaris, Apache, PHP 5.3, Zend Framework, Dojo, and Oracle.

Lifetouch Portrait Studios

Contract Developer

Short-term contract to help develop an inventory system to allow Wells Fargo database administrators more accurately catalog the numerous database systems within the organization. The system provided inventory, auditing, and license management for the data managment group. Work primarily consisted of developing PHP back-end code and Oracle stored procedures, with some front-end HTML/CSS/JS.

Technology stack consisted of Solaris, Zend Server (Apache 2.2 + PHP 5.3), Oracle, and jQuery.

Wells Fargo

Brought on board to develop a web-based enterprise system to manage the Co-Pay Relief program. Responsible for all areas of system design and development, from initial business analysis through deployment, and on to maintenance. Designed the entire system, from the data model, to internal architecture, to user interface, based on face-to-face interaction with non-technical business users. Produced comprehensive documentation of the software and managed the ongoing maintenance of the system. Hired a front-end developer to work on the public web sites and managed the overall software development effort within the organization.

Technology stack consisted of RHEL/CentOS, Apache, PHP 5.2, jQuery, and MySQL.

Patient Advocate Foundation

Development Manager/Lead Developer

Short-term contract position to add features to the SilverOrange Intranet, a third-party, purchased package written in PHP and running on SQL Server 2000. The goal was to provide a secure and audited medium to deliver various financial and medical reports to authorized external partners. I achieved the 3-month contract goal in 2 months.

Accordant Health Services

Contract Software Developer

Helped design and implement a hierarchical, group-based system for managing real estate transactions, and the related business/legal processes that go along with them. This was to be a public, web-based service, implemented on the LAMP stack. I helped with the system's architecture, and implemented various parts of the UI, data import/export shell scripts, and some XML web service integration. Built a sophisticated AJAX-powered search page directly with XHR without a framework.

PropertySoft, Inc.

Software Developer

Helped transition the company's existing "green screen" terminal-based accounting system to web-based technologies. Partnered with another web-development firm to do much of the design and implementation. Developed in PHP on SQL Server 2000. I wrote most of the logic for the General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Privilege License applications.

Allen Daniel and Associates Inc.

Worked on a traditional 2-tier, GUI fleet maintenance system. Client-side application logic was coded in the Progress 4GL, and the Progress Relational Database provided the back-end storage. I touched most areas of the system, especially the reports: although done in Crystal Reports, many required a significant amount of hand-coded SQL and/or additional server-side 4GL pre-processing to produce the desired information.
