Bruce Heterick
Senior VP, Open Collections & Infrastructure at ITHAKA
Bruce Heterick is the Senior VP of Open Collections & Infrastructure at ITHAKA, a role in which he leads strategies and teams to make library collections openly accessible on JSTOR and to integrate JSTOR's platform into library infrastructure for teaching and research support.1 With over 30 years of experience in higher education and library communities, Bruce has been instrumental in expanding JSTOR's reach to more than 11,000 academic institutions, schools, research organizations, NGOs, and public libraries across 170 countries.1
Before his current position, Bruce oversaw library outreach and access services globally for both JSTOR and Portico.1 His career includes roles such as an application developer at Virginia Tech, senior management positions at The Faxon Company and Blackwells, and executive director of SunGard SCT's higher education consulting practice.1
Bruce is actively involved in the library and information management community. He regularly writes and presents on information management issues and participates in the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI).1 His past service includes positions on the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) board, where he served as Chair, and the Board of Trustees for the Barrington (RI) Public Library.1
Academically, Bruce holds a bachelor of science in management and an MBA from Virginia Tech's Pamplin School.1 He currently serves on the Dean's Advisory Committee for the libraries at his alma mater, Virginia Tech.1
In his role at ITHAKA, Bruce is focused on enabling libraries to make their open collections available on JSTOR and developing infrastructure services to help institutions share, preserve, and manage their digital collections more effectively.23
