Bridgette See is a seasoned communications and storytelling specialist who has devoted over two decades to the art of storytelling and journalism. With an impressive background that spans television production, print journalism, and international development communication, Bridgette has developed a profound understanding of how stories shape our perceptions and experiences.
Her professional journey commenced after she graduated with First Class Honours in Electronic and Broadcast Media, where an influential professor challenged her confidence in her writing skills. Despite this early setback, Bridgette pursued her passion for journalism and joined Channel NewsAsia as a broadcast journalist. Between 2000 and 2004, she covered an extensive array of compelling stories, from environmental issues and tragic accidents to significant national events such as the General Election and major incidents like the SQ crash.
In addition to her work in journalism, Bridgette also dedicated her time to youth development initiatives, undertaking volunteer work even while employed. In 2004, she opted to transition into a full-time volunteer and freelance writer role. During this period, she worked with organizations like Raleigh Singapore, assisting in tsunami relief efforts on Nias Island, and engaged in outreach through the Singapore International Foundation as a volunteer overseas.
Bridgette’s career took her to East Timor in 2005, where she served as a communication consultant for UNICEF. Her mission was to document impactful stories of individuals whose lives were improved through UNICEF’s programs. This role led her through challenging circumstances, including experiencing the turmoil of the 2006 civil crisis firsthand. After her initial 10-month post, she returned to continue her work with UNICEF until late 2007, focusing on humanitarian communication in the region.
Upon her return to Singapore in 2008, Bridgette joined Tuber Productions. She started as a sub-editor, quickly rising to editor and ultimately editor-in-chief. There, she honed her editorial skills while writing and editing content on diverse topics, including government policies and urban solutions. Her proficiency in conducting in-depth interview profiles became one of her notable specialties.
In 2017, Bridgette transitioned to the DesignSingapore Council, where she played a pivotal role in advocating for design through strategic media pitching, social media engagement, and content creation for various platforms. Her journey reflects her commitment to leveraging storytelling to communicate important narratives and advocate for design's significance in society.
Education and Achievements
Bridgette’s educational background is as diverse as her professional experiences, reflecting her dedication to expanding her knowledge and skill set in storytelling and communication. She holds a Bachelor of Communication Studies with First Class Honours from Nanyang Technological University, where her foundational skills in communication were developed. Additionally, she pursued her Master’s in International & Community Development at Deakin University, focusing on development studies that enriched her perspective on global issues.
Bridgette has not stopped learning throughout her career. She participated in various workshops and courses targeted at enhancing her storytelling prowess. Among these experiences, she completed a 12-hour workshop on storytelling with a performance focus, led by Verena Tay, and participated in a course on immersive journalism at the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas. She also broadened her literary horizons by studying poetry and the fundamentals of data journalism at the University of Hong Kong.
Her commitment to personal and professional growth is evident in her involvement in the Asia Pacific Leadership Certificate program at the East West Center, where she engaged with concepts that bridge leadership and communication. These educational experiences have collectively contributed to her in-depth understanding and execution of impactful communication strategies across various platforms. Her career achievements include consulting for the Ministry of Education, where she helped revamp the Primary 6 Social Studies textbooks, showcasing her expertise in educational content development.
