Brian Parker
Brian Parker was the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of ubank, formerly known as 86 400, until his retirement in 2023.12 He was one of the founding members of the neobank 86 400, which was acquired by NAB in 2021 and integrated into its ubank division.1 Parker had a significant career in the banking and technology sectors, spanning 45 years.1
As CIO of 86 400, Parker played a crucial role in building Australia's first smartbank, designed specifically for smartphones.3 Under his leadership, the bank developed a mobile app that allowed customers to connect accounts from other financial institutions, providing greater visibility of their financial situation.3
Parker's tenure at 86 400 saw the successful launch of the bank in September 2019, offering transaction and savings accounts.3 He was instrumental in choosing Ionic as the technology platform for developing the bank's mobile app, which was critical to its operations as a digital-only bank.3
After the acquisition by NAB, Parker continued as CIO of ubank until his retirement in 2023. He was succeeded by Mihir Mehta, who joined ubank as CIO in May 2023.1
