Maintaining and building a Java EE web application fronted with AngularJS. We inherited a code base with a mix of REST API (via Jax-RS) and JSP pages. The application was backed with PostgreSQL using the Hibernate JPA libraries. I built features in both the Java server code and AngularJS client code. Interacted with Amazon's Product Advertising API, Google Analytics, Vertical Response for email marketing and Brombone (for caching AngularJS-enabled pages as HTML to make SEO work. Managed our web and database servers via Amazon's EC2, load balancing via Amazon's Elastic LoadBalancer, and started configuring content distribution through Amazon's CloudFront. Managed Apache and JBOSS configurations and configured sitemaps and robots for SEO.

Building new features and squashing bugs in the Ruby on Rails codebase. RoR was the primary code base in Yammer's stack, but was supported by Java services and a Javascript application. RoR code had to interact well with both of those paradigms, which required me to work closely and coordinate with engineers from those teams. I learned and helped develop the Javascript app to ease the load on those developers who were on the same project and served as interim tech lead for that project. Helped to refactor some legacy code that was identified as the primary source of bug reports.

Built a marketplace for pier-to-pier car sharing. Responsibilities include building software for social integration, user account management, searching for available rental cars, admin tasks including coupon creation/management, reservation management, and support services. Integrated with Google Maps, MixPanel analytics, and CoreLogic driver license verification. Deployment to and light administration of Heroku and Engine Yard hosting services. Quickly became trusted support for all internal departments; addressed bugs and missing features in operations console. Demonstrated care and attentiveness to both internal and external customer needs. Researched and upgraded libraries and gems; introduced the team to AngularJS, Squeel, Rabl, and other new technologies. Added functionality to Rails modules to help serve the needs of our core products.

Maintain a content management framework. Adding and upgrading features including Lucene search, third party tool integration, photo upload/processing, streamlining editorial processes. Among other gems/plugins we heavily used Haml, Sass, Hpricot, will-paginate, factory_girl. Some Apache management. Worked with MySQL to maintain databases. Migrate from CruiseControl to Hudson and from Subversion to Git. Isolate features of content management system and deploy to other corporation properties using Single Sign On, apache reverse proxies, and Phusion Passenger site configuration. Long-term projects include upgrading application framework from Rails 2.2 to Rails 3 and extracting a large feature into a new site using the same code base for both sites. In November 2011, began managing and leading a small team of developers.

Applications matched utility data to county-provided parcel data and reported consumption and savings grouped on several axes. Worked with GIS mapping software to highlight properties that matched user’s criteria filters. Ran query analysis and profiling to tune databases and target and optimize slow queries. Restructured application code layers for more efficient architecture and performance. I was able to design and build quality code for applications that would be shipped to and maintained by the clients. Learned <a href="http://VB.Net">VB.Net</a> to add features to an existing code-base that ended up helping us win the contract to build the next version from scratch.

Manager had accounting functionality for their direct reports PTO and could approve/deny requests. Reporting was available to HR employees. The system queried ADP to extract employee information for determining accrual rates and employment status.
