Bob Hendrikx

Bob Hendrikx is an innovative biodesigner, architect, and researcher known for his work in sustainable design and biotechnology. He holds the position of Research Affiliate at the MIT Media Lab, specifically within the Community Biotechnology Initiative, where he focuses on integrating living organisms into design to create sustainable solutions.14

Hendrikx is the founder of Loop Biotech, a company that has gained attention for developing the "living coffin," a biodegradable burial option made from mycelium that enriches the soil after use. This project aims to transform the way humans interact with death and nature, promoting a cycle of life through composting.123 His other notable projects include designing a "living bin" that consumes organic waste and creating the world's first living home, showcased at the Dutch Design Week.1

He graduated from the Technical University of Delft in 2019, where he studied architecture and industrial design engineering, and has since become a prominent figure in discussions about sustainability and biotechnology. Hendrikx has been recognized for his contributions, including being named "Human of the Year" by VICE Media in 2020, and has spoken at various prestigious events, including TEDx and Google.14
