Multi-omics Data Scientist; Stanford; twitter.com/biterbilen; github.com/biterbilen
Biter Bilen is a skilled data scientist with over a decade of experience in designing, implementing, and applying supervised and unsupervised learning tools to multi-omics data. Bilen has a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from the University of Basel and has worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Basel and a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at Stanford University School of Medicine. Additionally, they have worked as a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Basel, a Post-graduate Researcher at DKFZ German Cancer Research Center, and a Masters-level Researcher at Bilkent University. Before embarking on a career in science, Bilen earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Middle East Technical University.
Bilen is skilled in a wide range of machine learning and software engineering techniques, including ensemble methods, deep neural networks, C/C++, Java, R, Python, Perl, BASH/GNU coreutils, MATLAB/Octave, SQL, GNU parallel/SLURM/SGE, git, Docker, and Jupyter. They are also an expert in analyzing diverse omics data types such as ATACseq, BSseq, single cell-RNAseq, RNAseq, ChIPseq, CLIPseq, direct-RNAseq, small RNAseq, and metabolomics.
Bilen has a particular interest in epigenetic transcriptional and translational gene regulation, non-coding transcriptome, RISC-complex, RNA decay, exosomes, aging, cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma, Ewing's sarcoma), stem cell state transitions, DNA damage prevention, scientific management, and consortium data analysis.
