Bijan Sabet, United States Ambassador to the Czech Republic

Bijan Sabet is an American venture capitalist who has served as the United States ambassador to the Czech Republic since February 2023.1 He was nominated by President Joe Biden in August 2022 and confirmed by the Senate in December 2022.12

Sabet earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Boston College.2

Career

Sabet co-founded Spark Capital in 2005, a venture capital firm that focuses on entrepreneurs and their designs; he currently serves as General Partner.1 He has led investments and served on the board of directors of early-stage startup companies that have transformed into global leaders, such as Wayfair, Cruise Automotive, Oculus, Slack, Tumblr, Warby Parker, Discord, Stack Overflow, etc.1

Sabet previously worked as a senior executive in numerous technology startup companies in Silicon Valley, California, and Massachusetts.1

United States Ambassador to the Czech Republic

As ambassador, Sabet has led the U.S. embassy in Prague, navigating everything from the first new Czech president elected in a decade to the largest war in Europe since World War II.2 He has emphasized the importance of strengthening U.S.-Czech economic, cultural, educational, and interpersonal ties.3

Sabet was ceremonially sworn in by Vice President Kamala Harris on January 6, 2023.4 He presented his credentials to President Miloš Zeman on February 15, 2023.1
