A lead member of Emory’s highly productive central university communications team. Primary responsibilities involve issues management, responding to media queries, and targeted national media promotion – and placement – of stories strategically important to Emory University. Regular duties include:•   Monitor higher education trends, issues and media coverage. •   Respond and/or prepare for issues; provide analysis of issues to senior leadership that requires research, fact checking and collaboration with constituents across the university; write statements and talking points as needed.  •  Handle all media inquiries and most promotions related to the Division of Campus Life, undergraduate admissions, financial aid, university operations and select departments within the Emory College of Arts and Sciences.  •  Continue many of the essential duties handled as associate director of media relations.

Senior Communications Officer

Associate Director, University Media Relations, Emory University, 2007-2013 As a senior media relations officer on the central university communications team, main responsibilities included working with national and local media to promote and consistently place positive coverage of Emory. Coverage areas included the Division of Campus Life, admissions, financial aid, campus services, Office of Community and University Partnerships, faculty research in the sciences and various departments within the Emory College of Arts and Sciences. Also collaborated with colleagues to coordinate and provide content for the Emory News Center, Emory Report and social media. Other essential duties included: •   Provided issues management support as needed.•   Managed all media relations duties for Emory's annual commencement ceremony.•   Handled, reviewed and approved the daily media reports and emails to the campus, in collaboration with Emory media relations colleagues. •   Oversaw and guided the work of the assistant directors of media relations, including video production, writing and media promotion.

Associate Director of Media Relations

Primary content provider for a five-member media relations team. Specific duties essential to the office included: •   Identified stories, research and trends that aligned with the university's strategic plan; wrote pitches and press releases targeting Emory’s key media constituents.•   Cultivated faculty experts, and students, who could serve as sources for media. •   Served as the primary media contact for the sciences within Emory College; managed all media relations duties for Emory's annual commencement ceremony; and maintained a comprehensive database of information collected by the office of University

Managed all aspects of publication’s production including planning, story assignments, editing and supervised the layout, printing and distribution. Directed a redesign of the publication in the summer of 2001 and served as the associate editor. October 2000-May 2001.•   Editor and writer, The Source, formerly Georgia State's primary external publication for alumni, published quarterly, circulation 105,000. 1999-2001.•  Editor, P@nther News, a monthly electronic newsletter for the Georgia State University Alumni Association. Responsibilities included writing, editing and distribution of newsletter. Other duties for the alumni association included press releases, speeches, brochures and content for a direct mail campaign for alumni association membership. 1999-2001.
