Bernard Turner
Associate Professor, Social Entrepreneurship at Belmont University
Bernard Turner is an Associate Professor of Social Entrepreneurship and Director of the Center for Social Entrepreneurship at Belmont University.1 He holds multiple advanced degrees, including an Ed.D. in Leadership and Professional Practice from Trevecca Nazarene University, an M.A. in Philanthropy and Development from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, an M.B.A. in Organizational Administration from the University of Toledo, and a B.S. in Business Administration from Findlay College.1
Dr. Turner has extensive experience in the nonprofit sector, including fundraising for colleges/universities and nonprofits, program development, and economic development positions working with minority and women-owned businesses.1 He was the first African American male to graduate from Trevecca Nazarene University with a doctorate degree.1
At Belmont University, Dr. Turner played a key role in launching the nation's first undergraduate program in social entrepreneurship in 2008.1 He is also affiliated with the Center for Nonprofit Management in Nashville for over 30 years and serves on the board of several organizations, including the Grant Professionals Association.1
Recently, Dr. Turner was awarded the 2023 President's Award by the Grant Professionals Certification Institute.2 He holds the GPC (Grant Professional Certified) designation and has been recognized for his contributions to grant writing and nonprofit management.13
