Ben Handel
Associate Professor of Economics at University of California
Ben Handel is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). He is a recipient of the 2015 Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship in Economics and has been involved in significant research focusing on the microeconomics of consumer choice and market structure in the health care sector, particularly health insurance markets.
His research delves into the impact of consumer choice frictions like inertia and limited information on regulatory policies in health insurance markets and the incentives and adoption of information technology by medical providers. Dr. Handel collaborates with various large firms and policy organizations within the healthcare sector to address critical questions in these areas.
Ben Handel earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Northwestern University in 2010, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in 2011. Additionally, he holds an A.B. in Economics from Princeton University, awarded in 2004.
