Belal El-Megharbel is the Co-Founder and CEO of MaxAB, an innovative e-commerce platform that connects brands with grocery and food retailers in Egypt. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Industrial Engineering. Before founding MaxAB in 2018, he worked at Careem, a prominent ride-hailing service in the Middle East, where he served as General Manager for Cairo and Alexandria, overseeing operations and launching new services like Careem bikes.134
El-Megharbel's entrepreneurial journey began when he recognized the inefficiencies in Egypt's grocery supply chain. He aimed to streamline the procurement and delivery processes for small retailers, which make up a significant portion of the grocery market. Under his leadership, MaxAB has grown rapidly, featuring over 22,000 retailers and facilitating better access to products and credit for these businesses. The company secured $6.2 million in seed funding within ten months of its launch, marking it as one of the largest amounts raised by a Middle Eastern startup at that time.345
In addition to his role at MaxAB, El-Megharbel is certified in Lean Six Sigma and is fluent in both English and Arabic.23
