My dream of becoming a doctor after getting accepted to Stanford quickly disintegrated after accepting the hard reality that my family didn’t have the financial means to pay for college.

But leave it to a valedictorian to find another path to satisfy my desire to ‘diagnose and treat’ ailments. I dove headlong into earning a business degree at San Jose State.

At the time I didn’t realize applying my knowledge and determination in accounting would ultimately reveal a parallel path involving problem solving.

Fast forward to today, I love helping emerging growth companies set up their finance and accounting systems, implement best-practices, industry solutions and technology integration (NetSuite, Quickbooks, Xero, <a href="http://Bill.com">Bill.com</a>, Expensify, Gusto, Avalara, ADP, Carta, FloQast, Vena) to run efficiently AND position themselves to attract funding for accelerated growth.

But start-ups are not the only ones in need of financial consulting. More often than not, I’m consulting with mature companies to help them ‘unstick’ themselves from current erroneous practices and regain their financial footing and forward momentum.

Turning company back-office functions around, automating and making them more efficient than ever is what I strive to accomplish daily.

But the most rewarding moment comes when the staff has the “aha” moment where they see the massive productivity gains, and how their work lives are better, smoother and easier.  I love what I do!

On a final note, I promised myself that I would afford my children the opportunity to attend any college of their choice, regardless of price.

I kept my promise. My son graduated as a chemical engineer from the University of San Francisco. My daughter graduates in May 2021 as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Western University.

When I squeeze in time to relax, I love to travel, SCUBA dive or hang out at the beach with my family and yellow lab Beau.

InFreeDA was a very early-stage start-up who kept its books in an Excel sheet.  I transformed that system into QuickBooks, where I set up all aspects of accounting. I also created and updated very large analysis tools that were presented to Venture Capitalists. Eventually AT&T purchased InFreeDA, and I worked closely with them to transition all systems.
