I ran worldwide marketing for Mesosphere, where I created the Datacenter Operating System (DCOS) category. I was the first-in senior executive, partnering with the CEO and his co-founders to build out the company's organizational structure, product and go-to-market. I joined Mesosphere when the company was 11 employees and mostly stealth. I did early sales and BD, orchestrating Mesosphere's relationship with Verizon (it's largest customer), as well as its most critical cloud partnerships with Amazon, Google and Microsoft. I oversaw all aspects of the company's 2014 launch as a solo marketing team, including mapping out product capabilities, pricing, packaging as well as PR, messaging, website and demo. I created the category "Datacenter OS" and positioned Mesosphere as the leader in that category, successfully de-positioning competitors such as Kubernetes and Docker. Over my 2-1/2 year tenure, I built up a world-class marketing team of 14 people that consisted of AR, PR, events, content, growth, partner marketing and product marketing. I also oversaw the critical relationship with Microsoft, which led to the launching of the Open Source DC/OS (which I also oversaw) as well as the strategic series C financing, in which Microsoft participated.

At Heroku I was responsible for all product and corporate marketing, including branding, messaging, customer acquisition, go-to-market strategy, customer lifetime value, business development and partnerships. My primary focus was on building an at-scale digital marketing "stack" for Heroku's traditional offering while helping the company pivot into the enterprise space with new products, pricing, positioning and distribution appropriate for large enterprise sales.

Bixbe was an e-commerce infrastructure platform built by 1000 Markets, inc. It was the easiest and simplest way for anybody to sell anything online. For individuals, small businesses, software developers and mobile platform providers, Bixbe removed the cost and complexity from e-commerce. As a SaaS product designed to be simple enough for anybody to use, it integrated with third-party applications, services and marketplaces to bring lightweight e-commerce to the real-time and mobile web, offering the simplest and lowest-cost way to push a "for sale" sign into the cloud. The platform was sold to a confidential buyer.

I was responsible for overseeing the board of directors of this highly-innovative conservation-driven housing developer. The organization operates in partnership with the not-for-profit Commonweal Conservancy to leverage the sale of market-rate home sites to underwrite the conservation and restoration of thousands of acres of publicly accessible open space. The two organization work hand-in-hand to protect open space and develop sustainable communities. The organization's flagship project is the Galisteo Basin Preserve (<a href="http://www.galisteobasinpreserve.com">www.galisteobasinpreserve.com</a>), which will conserve and restore 12,000 acres of publicly accessible open space -- offering more than 30 miles of riding and hiking trails -- as well as promote a new model of environmentally responsible mixed-use, mixed-income community development.

I was frequently asked to speak at industry conventions and participate on panels as an expert in interactive television. As one of the key messaging strategies, I was responsible for claiming the term "enhanced television" as our domain and promulgated it into the industry vernacular as a way to claim mindshare and reposition competitors. Wink went public on NASDAQ in 2000 and was later purchased by Liberty Media.

I was one of the first 30 employees at this innovative software company that developed the GEOS graphical operating system for Commodore 64 computers. I was hired as a technical writer and was then promoted to manage the entire documentation department, where I was responsible for writing and producing 30+ users' manuals for a variety of application software products, including word processors, spreadsheets, publishing systems, and operating systems across Commodore 64, Apple II, and PC platforms. When the company began developing it's PC-GEOS competitor to Windows, I was one of the key application user interface and product configuration designers. With the launch of the PC product, I was named Director of Customer Service where I was responsible for contact with the end customer, including inbound sales and technical support. When the company redirected its energies to provide systems and software into the mobile device and TV markets, the company became Geoworks.
