Joseph Louis, Ph.D., is an accomplished civil engineer and an assistant professor at Oregon State University. With a strong academic background, Louis has completed his doctoral and master's degrees in Civil Engineering from Purdue University and a bachelor's degree in Technology from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli. Louis's interest area is the fusion of simulation, visualization, and automation for the construction and operation of physical infrastructure. His research group employs a combination of technologies such as machine learning, computer vision, virtual and augmented reality, and wireless sensors to monitor, optimize, and automate construction sites, modular factories, and physical infrastructure. Louis has led several significant projects such as the optimization of industrialized construction, post-disaster debris management, and real-time monitoring of heavy civil operations.

Louis has a prestigious teaching portfolio that reflects undergraduate and graduate classes in heavy civil operations and equipment, construction estimating, project risk management, and simulation and visualization for construction. Louis has also held several positions as a Research Assistant and President at TEDxPurdueU.
