The Daily Sentinel serves the readers and advertisers of Nacogdoches, Texas (population 33,000). Nacogdoches is the oldest town in Texas and is also home of Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA).

I joined the staff at Hood County News to manage a dial-up internet service. During that time, I was responsible for managing the tech support staff of 3 FTEs and the IT needs of the company. With the growth of broadband, the dial-up service department was sold and I became the advertising manager. With the new role, I am still responsible for the company's IT needs as well a website maintenance and development of other newspaper websites using WordPress.
Always looking for new sources of income, we are constantly evolving our product mix to include print and digital to help our advertisers meet their many marketing challenges.

With "desktop publishing" turning into newspaper publishing, the company sold and installed computers and trained staff at small to mid-size newspapers as they moved away from phototypesetting equipment.
The company still provides support and training for newspapers as they continue to change and adapt with the latest software and hardware.

Taking over the operations of the newspaper from my late father, Bob Craig, in 1981, I filled a variety of roles at the small weekly newspaper. As is the case is most small newspapers, this included covering all news from city council meetings to high school sports. Other tasks were ad design, page design and photography. Taking advantage of the advances in technology, the paper was able to cut staff from 7 FTE's to 2.5.
